During the mid-80’s Global Outreach began concentrating its efforts in the many refugee centers in war-torn Central America, and our efforts in Central America continue through supporting partners involved in healthcare, academic and public health education and women’s health issues through pre-and postnatal vitamins.
As the Iron Curtain was lifted in the late 80’s, Global Outreach missions to Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union provided tons of food, medical supplies and aid, and learning materials, much of which was distributed by the numerous relief agencies already established in the region. Special missions have included healthcare provided to the victims of the Chernobyl nuclear accident and providing and teaching specialized surgical techniques for children born with birth defects.
After responding to Hurricane Mitch which devastated so much of Central America in November of 1998, we began the NatalCare program which addressed the growing problem of malnutrition by providing pre-and postnatal vitamins for women and multivitamins for children suffering the affects of food shortages
We have now provided aid in 42 countries.
In 2009, we began our GlobalGoats program by providing grants to qualifying organizations who utilize these funds as a permanent revolving account to make microloans for individuals to be able to begin their own goat flock or small business. Through this program, we are able to provide grants usually in the amount of $1500 to qualifying organizations who in turn make loans of generally less than $150 to people without access to normal credit lines, that they may start a family business.
